Mt Charleston Mountain

Mt Charleston Mountain is a very popular mountain destination for those hikers that enjoy camping in the Smoky Mountains. In addition to the numerous campsites scattered throughout the city, there are quite a few RV campgrounds as well. The city camping areas usually offer many facilities and amenities and even have bathrooms and showers for those that may need them. Most of the Mt. Charleston camping sites are located in the deeper parts of the forest, but there are still quite a number of sites available in the less explored areas of the forest.

A Great Outdoor Activity

Those that are looking for a more remote camping option in the Smoky Mountains should check out their reservations for the Mt. Charleston Campgrounds. The reservations for these campsites are usually taken in the spring, so those looking for a more secluded camping experience may want to make their reservations in the fall or winter. The majority of the Mt. Charleston campgrounds are within a day’s drive of the famous Smoky Mountain ski resort and those that are close enough to the mountain to be able to visit during the off-season will often find some great deals to take advantage of.

Mt. Charleston camping grounds are managed by the National Forest Service and are located within the boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Some campgrounds will have access to the popular trial spots nearby and most of them are within walking distance of the Mt. Charleston ski resort.

Another excellent option for overnight camping at the park would be the “hookups” that some campgrounds have to offer. Hookups can include air mattresses and portable toilets that can make your stay more comfortable and allow you to stay at a site that meets your needs for camping. Although these hookups do charge a fee, it may be well worth it if you know you’ll be spending several nights at a site with all of the modern amenities. Another option for overnight camping at Mt. Charleston campgrounds would be to look into the many “no hookups” camping options that the campgrounds have to offer.

There are also many RV campgrounds in the area, and some of them are open year round. Some of them will even provide you with hookups for your water and electricity use. If you’re looking for an easy way to enjoy the great outdoors without having to make several overnight accommodations, consider a trip to Mt. Charleston.
